The Texas Governor Greg Abbott's attempt to introduce school vouchers in the state has been dealt a major blow, as the Texas House voted against using public school funds to finance private schools. Despite offering teacher raises and increasing public school funding as incentives for the passage of the school vouchers proposal, it was ultimately rejected. This decision not only prevented public funds from being directed towards private schools but also meant that public schools missed out on a potential $7.6 billion increase in funding that was contingent on the approval of vouchers. The vote, which saw 21 Republicans joining house democrats in opposition, marks a significant setback for Governor Abbott's education policy agenda.
